SOUTH BEND â Tenants of the Rabbi Shulman Apartments have still not been given their 60-day notice to move, but the South Bend Housing Authority says itâs working with them to get them out as soon as possible.
âIf it was left up to me, it would have been yesterday,â housing authority interim Director Tia Cauley, said. âWe need to get that building empty.â
Gas problems in the six-story building on Western Avenue that houses 112 tenants were discovered in October. Now the residents need to move out so the building can be assessed.
There is no exact timeline for getting everyone out at the moment, Cauley said, but they are trying to do everything they can to get the residents out quickly. Residents have not been given an official 60-day notice requiring them to vacate the property, Commissioner Steve Luecke said; rather the housing authority is working with them on a volunteer basis to start.
