With Taneytown in the process of annexing two parcels collectively known as the Sewell Property, Carroll County commissioners approved a waiver that will change the property’s zoning, allowing four homes per acre rather than one.
Though Carroll County’s sheriff and commissioners said they don’t believe the county needs a police accountability board, they are charged by the state with creating one by July 1. On Thursday, they began debating who may be chosen to serve on the board.
Carroll County Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services Director Michael Robinson told commissioners Thursday that the county’s fire and EMS needs are sometimes not being met due to inconsistent staffing levels. Robinson intends to change that as he works through plans to hire hundreds of new employees for the newly established department.
At a public meeting On Tuesday with Carroll County commissioners, Ted Zaleski, director of management and budget for Carroll County, presented a recommended fiscal 2023 budget of $654.76 million, with about $473 million in the General Fund and about $99 million in the Capital Fund.
Carroll County government staff and the sheriff’s office have formulated a countywide noise ordinance to update language in a 2005 law that largely addresses only noise from all-terrain vehicles. The next step is a public hearing to allow residents to comment and make suggestions.
