Missoula County Commissioners presented an update on ‘Operation Shelter’ on Thursday in the Sophie Moiese meeting room in the Missoula County Courthouse
MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) The city of Missoula is creating an incident command team to end illegal camping and create safe, indoor housing for people experiencing homelessness while making sure public spaces remain safe and usable by everyone, Mayor John Engen and three Missoula County commissioners announced.
The county s Office of Emergency Management will be looking for land where legal camps can be set up and for ways to house more people in motels or other indoor places, Engen said Tuesday.
“The challenge of unhoused residents in the city of Missoula and Missoula County has reached a critical point,” the mayor said.

There was yet another online meeting via ZOOM on Thursday about the newly established Temporary Safe Outdoor Space (TSOS) located just off Highway South.
This meeting was sponsored by the Missoula County Commissioners as an official hearing with Commissioner Josh Slotnick and Chief Operating Officer Anne Hughes presiding.
Speaking for the TSOS were Susan Hay Patrick of the Missoula County United Way, along with Jim Hicks and April Seat of the Hope Rescue Mission.
A Missoula businessman, Bob McCue, owner of Eagle Mini-Storage located just across the river from the camp, asked why the organizers had not utilized part of the Missoula County Fairgrounds for the TSOS.
