USAID marks completion of E-PESO project in PH

Published February 17, 2021, 11:36 AM The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) on Wednesday announced the successful completion of its E-PESO, a six-year project aimed at promoting broad-based economic growth and financial inclusion through the use of digital payments in the Philippines. “The partnerships we developed have laid the foundation for a robust and reliable payment system that facilitates inclusive and sustainable economic growth and benefits all Filipinos.  More importantly, our work has helped the country prepare for the digital future,” USAID Philippines Mission Director Lawrence Hardy II said during the project’s conclusion on Tuesday, February 16, 2021. E-PESO specifically supported the digitization of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) systems and helped 11 local government units increase efficiency by opening online and mobile payment platforms for property taxes, building and business permits, and other fees and charges.

Dominguez sees BIR surpassing 2021 collection target of P2 08-T

MANILA, Feb. 17 Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III has expressed confidence that the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) would be able to overshoot its P2.08-trillion collection target this year as it faces the “great task” of raising as much revenues as possible to fund the comprehensive effort of defeating the COVID-19 pandemic and supporting the nation’s economic recovery.  Dominguez said the digitalization initiatives put in place by the BIR under the leadership of Commissioner Caesar Dulay, along with its improved administrative systems and dedicated workforce, will enable the bureau to achieve its 2021 collection goal.  The collection performance of the revenue agencies, especially the BIR, “will greatly matter for our nation’s future, Dominguez said.
