[cheers and applause] i want to start by thanking supervisor safaye, who is really, i think the best supervisor district 11 has ever had. Let me tell you, because of his work and advocacy, we are bringing more resources than ever to this community. We saved 21 units just on Mission Street where low income families were facing eviction. He took the leadership, we purchased that property and protected those units for generations to come. [cheers and applause] we know that
The e. V. Readiness would cover some of those properties that you mentioned that are in the planning or entitlement or yet to be built phase. So when theyre built, they will be e. V. Ready. That will take care of all New Buildings going forward. The existing multifamily unit dwellings, thats still a challenge. We started with the e. V. Readiness ordinance. Were now working on this initiative for private sector garages. Weve done the same for our municipal garages. So that is a bit of the next frontier. Its something weve been looking at, but its challenging from a infrastructure and cost perspective, but its still something were working on. Because the need for charging as we transition the entire fleet is going to continue to grow. Were on step 2 or 3 here and there is a few more after that. And the Merchant Community to address the deeply felt and deeply real concerns on how years of construction will impact their lives and of construction will this isnt limited to my district, of course. Many of you knew here. Her. She originally hailed from chappaque, new york, and moved here at the age of 25. She would have turned 85 this friday, the 13th, which she thought was very lucky. A third of a century ago, she actually saw somebody on tv from the Telegraph Hill dwellers, and decided to join that organization, which she ended up serving as president four times, and cajoled me not only into joining, and later on cajoled me into running her and tom cajoled me against my will to run for supervisor almost 20 years ago. She would come and pick me up at 6 30 in the morning and drive me to bus stops and all of the rest of it. Her deep, dark secret was that she actually, many, many years ago, served on the republican countys Central Committee of california, which ive now outed her on, but she made up for that by running for the Democratic County Commission here in San Francisco in 2004 and 2006, winning both times, and serving as one of its vice chairs.
