Spanish King Felipe VI has pledged his support for environmental conservation efforts in the Maldives, acknowledging that the Maldivian environment in is inexplicably linked to the nation s crucial tourism industry.
King Felipe made the announcement at a private meeting with Tourism Minister Dr. Abdulla Mausoom following the 113th Executive Council session for the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) held in Madrid, Spain.
Heads of State from the UNWTO session received a private invitation from King Felipe for meetings at the El Pardo Palace in Madrid on January 18, where King Felipe addressed the importance of international tourism in fostering opportunities for investment and employment. King Felipe proceeded to host individual discussions with the gathered dignitaries in relation to the state of tourism in their respective countries.
The first meeting of the Online Education Committee has taken place. High-level representatives from the public and private sectors were present and the objective was to make education a key pillar for tourism’s recovery. The second meeting will hold in Madrid in the framework of the 113th session of the Executive Council on January 17, 2021.
As online education and access to digital skills is becoming remarkably necessary for the population, the Committee was created in the framework of the 112th session of the Executive Council held in Georgia in September 2020. The main objective was to advise and make recommendations to Secretary General and Executive Council with on education matters, as one of United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO’s) fundamental priorities.
