San Francisco officials announced a new pilot program that would provide inmates with a $10 monthly allowance.
The Commissary Allowance Pilot Program will give inmates a monthly allowance to buy necessities like food and hygiene products. Those who have been in a city jail for 30 days or more and who have had an average commissary of less than ten dollars are eligible for the program. That means a little over 100 inmates in city jails qualify.
The program is part of a series of changes happening for the city of San Francisco s prison systems. The program as of now is being piloted for one year.
