Banks credit exposure to non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) increased by 23.6% YoY to Rs 13.8 lakh crore in July, accounting for 9.3% of their overall share, according to ratings agency Care Edge. The growth in bank credit to NBFCs has been consistent since the second half of FY22, coinciding with the reopening of the economy after the pandemic. However, NBFCs overall borrowings declined by 3.3% MoM due to the merger of HDFC with its subsidiary HDFC Bank.
