BENNINGTON â Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Matt Harrington rolled out an announcement for the next Garlic Town, USA event during Mondayâs Select Board meeting.
Calling into the boardâs Zoom session, Harrington said the 2021 version of the annual event will be held in the downtown on Labor Day weekend, on Saturday, Sept. 4.
The Southwestern Vermont Chamber simultaneously launched a media release about the event and to its members. Garlic Town, USA is a joint effort of the Chamber in cooperating with the Better Bennington Corp. and the town.
The downtown format, which last year replaced the Southern Vermont Garlic & Herb Fest and its larger crowds amid state restrictions on gatherings because of the COVID-19 pandemic, will return with added features, Harrington said.

You might recall that last week, we reported the Legislative Joint Fiscal Committee turned down a number of Scott Administration proposals for reallocating more than $20 million in remaining federal coronavirus relief funds. They did so based on several concerns, including the short notice upon which the proposals were delivered, and concerns about how the money would be spent. But lawmakers including state Sen Dick Sears, D-Bennington, said theyâd welcome another look.
Those proposals are back, and the committee meets at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow to reconsider the package. You can tune in live or watch the proceedings later at this link.
