Comics Wire: Miles Morales Clone Saga, Man-Bat, this week s hot reads and more!

Future State began, we took a look at some of DC Comics most ambitious upcoming stuff and what it might mean. In the week since then, the fine folks at Marvel Comics have rolled out a series of new announcements of their own, and while they re more focused on ongoing series than line-wide events this time, they re no less exciting so let s take a look. On Tuesday, Marvel revealed that Saladin Ahmed s run on Miles Morales: Spider-Man (one of the most consistently entertaining superhero books on stands right now) would be moving into classic Spider-Man territory with a new version of The Clone Saga tailored to Miles own story. Written by Ahmed with art from Carmen Carnero, this story arc promises to put Miles through that iconic wringer in his own distinctive way,” as Ahmed put it in a Marvel press release.

We tend to lead off this column quite often with stories of developing events and publishing ventures from the Big Two, because here at SYFY WIRE we tend to spend a lot of time with the superheroes of Marvel and DC Comics, for obvious reasons. If there s one thing I ve tried to emphasize over and over, though, particularly in the reviews section of Comics Wire, it s that there are a lot of smaller publishers putting out great stuff you should be paying attention to right now. One of the best of them is Vault Comics, and over the last week or so they ve made one thing very clear: They re not just here to stay in 2021  they re expanding.

This long, strange year has meant that comics publishers and creators have been forced to adapt in a number of ways, from virtual convention appearances to increases in comics crowdfunding to working with nonprofits to help retailers and beyond. While the circumstances are unfortunate, some of that adaptation has meant that in many cases fans are getting closer to the comics themselves than ever before, whether it s through live Q&A experiences they haven t ever gotten to witness in-person, or live drawing demonstrations broadcast across the web. As 2020 turns into 2021, two of comics top creators are harnessing that kind of energy to do something even bigger: Create an entire comic before our very eyes.
