all right. welcome back, everyone. i m joined all right! the wounded warrior project. you ve heard about us talking about that on this show before. i have carlos gonzalez, an iraq vet with me today. i have james o leary, the area outreach coordinator for the wounded warrior project. what are they doing? they re putting together gift packs for our soldiers overseas. good morning, guys. tell me what we re doing and what we re putting together. i m in line and i m supposed to be stuffing. a little toiletry kit here. we have underwear, socks, shorts, shirt, beanies, program director and thank you cards. and this goes to all the wounded in the hospitals when they get there so they have something to put on, some clothes when you get to the hospitals, usually you have nothing but your gown on and dog tag. comfort items for them in the hospital beds. fantastic. so carlos, what are you putting in first? putting in the hygiene kit and then we re putting in some
folks that are holding it, and here it is. then i went to them with a request, so many people need things, and they should not be going without basic comfort items and i was told to fill out paper work, he says, paper work, are they the government now? this is supposed to be anti-government, anti-wall street ideas. ainsley: just to give you a picture, i ve been down there twice and basically you have the big group, but then they have the small sects a finance group in charge of the money and the group that sanitation group that s obviously in charge of the bathrooms. dave: the kitchen group. ainsley: they have a, woulding group they get $150 a day, the kitchen group gets 2000 a day and there was a guy out there with a big bucket and he was just walking around the street, saying donate, donate, and people were dropping in 5 s, 10 s, 20 s and people walking down there on streets of new york. dave: is there a shadow group? well, we asked about that and some guys down there, they
help the people in japan. they know if it happened in l.a. the international community would help us. reporter: the team is made up ofdoctors, building experts and firefighters. there are six canine teams trained to search. they have experience covering other international disasters. it will similar possibly of the operation between like katrina where we were doing water rescues, somewhere to possible haiti with collapsed buildings with survivors possibly trapped and also we were just in new zealand. reporter: the team could be gone for three weeks at a time. which means they have to pack all the necessities, food, clothing and comfort items, to last the entire mission. most all of us carry baby wipes, believe it or not, just because it can be a quick rinse or shower. they ve seen the images. they know the challenges. it s the desire to help to makes this difficult mission bearable.
and welcoming home. we re at walter reed, balboa, and out in germany where they did a smaller one. basically just saying, hey, welcome home. we know you re injured and we know you don t have time right now but when you get a chance, here are some comfort items, information, give us a call. is there usually resistance to getting help? yes, there is. you re all tough. you ve gone over to fight a war. we can get through this. i think what really hits you when you re back in the home states, you re like, what do i do now? especially when the military says you re not fit for duty anymore and you joined at 17, you wanted to do this for a career and now what do you do? 21 years old and injured and you have nowhere to turn. that s where the resistance comes and they feel like they re useless comes. it s tougher in a recession. definitely, yes. nancy, great to see you. i m glad we got a chance to talk. thanks for the great work you do. nancy is a benefits liaison,
