A cause was not yet known. No structures are believed to have been damaged by the fire but Palomar College said it burned about 11 acres of the Palomar San Marcos Campus nature preserve, including Diegan Coastal Sage that is severely threatened in the region, Palomar College President Dr. Jack Kahn. The arboretum, which contains hundreds of rare and endangered species, was spared. The college will work with the San Diego Habitat Conservancy, which manages the preserve, to address the impact of the fire and consider preventative measures as necessary, Palomar College said.

All evacuation orders, which were in place for structures west of the Bard Reservoir, east of Highway 23, north of Fernleaf Court and south of Hardy Lane, have been lifted. (KGTV) – Fire crews responded to a brush fire burning at Palomar College that sent thick smoke into the air on Thursday. The blaze began at about 12:30 p.m. in the arboretum on the campus located on 1140 W Mission Rd., according to the San Marcos Fire Department and the college. As of 2:55 p.m., the fire had reached approximately 30 acres and crews had stopped its forward spread. Fire officials on scene initially believed the fire had reached 40 acres, but later updated that number in the evening.
