Comcast (NASDAQ: CMCSA) subsidiary NBCUniversal, has reached the 42-million mark for sign-ups.
What Happened: Peacock soft-launched on April 15, 2020, as an exclusive offering for Xfinity cable and broadband customers before rolling out nationally two months later. The new membership level was announced Thursday in Comcast’s first-quarter earnings report. In the previous report released in January, the service had 33 million sign-ups.
Peacock revenue totaled over $100 million in 2020, but the service generated a loss before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization of $700 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter. NBCUniversal is predicting $2 billion in losses for Peacock over the 2020 and 2021 span.
Nonetheless, Comcast Chairman and CEO Brian Roberts said Peacock users were viewing nearly 20% more programming hours each month than our traditional audience on NBC, accumulating 1 billion hours before their screens.

Comcast is breaking subscriber records both in its high-speed broadband and its four-year old wireless service as the cable behemoth continues to make its core network its “number one priority,” according to Comcast Chairman and CEO Brian Roberts.
Driven by broadband, Comcast’s Cable Communications segment had its best first-quarter result on record for total customer relationships, adding 380,000 new business and residential users. The segment now has 33.5 million customers. The company added 461,000 high-speed internet customers.

However, Orlando Informer reports that Universal Studios Orlando Epic Universe construction has resumed at last, and Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings says it is targeting an early 2025 opening.
Comcast owns Universal Studios, and Comcast Chairman and CEO Brian Roberts stated, “Work on Epic Universe paused in July 2020, as the company adjusted plans in the midst of the pandemic. The restart will begin immediately – but is expected to take several months before reaching full-speed, as Universal re-staffs for the project and reassembles its vendor and contractor teams.” This is understandable, as a mammoth project like this cannot simply sprint back into full development.
