(KPLC) - This summer, a bunch of local kids will have new bikes to ride around town. Students at Combre-Fondel Elementary School received bikes this morning as part of the Black Heritage Festival’s Annual Kid Zone. Typically, the giveaway happens every year, but due to the pandemic and hurricanes, it looked a lot different and took on a whole new meaning for the students.

Families invited to attend STEM Academy informational meeting Thursday LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - School staff members at Combre-Fondel Elementary School are gearing up for registration to begin by inviting families interested in having their student or students attend the new STEM Academy to attend a parent informational meeting this week. Parents can attend the meeting in-person or virtually via Zoom. The in-person meeting will be at the Combre-Fondel Elementary multi-purpose room on Thursday, March 18, 2021, at 5:30 p.m. Parents can also attend a virtual meeting via this Zoom link HERE at 12 p.m. on the same day. The Northside STEM Academy will serve any student entering grades kindergarten through fifth who are zoned to attend Barbe, Bell City, Iowa, LaGrange, Sam Houston, and Washington-Marion High Schools.

(KPLC) - The Calcasieu Parish School Board has announced that it will be opening the Combre-Fondel Northside STEM Academy in the 2021-2022 school year. The Academy is set to serve any student entering kindergarten through fifth grade who are zoned to attend Barbe, Bell City, Iowa, LaGrange, Sam Houston, and Washington Marion High Schools. “The opportunity to immerse students into STEM learning in the core subjects at Combre-Fondel Elementary is a great milestone for our school district,” said Superintendent Karl Bruchhaus. “The school administration and staff have demonstrated great vision and energy to bring the program to reality. Our School Board certainly recognizes the merits of being able to replicate the success of the program at E.K.
