Compiled by Candace Krebs Governor declares Livestock Proud Day March 22 Colorado Livestock Association was joined by Colorado Dairy Farmers, Colorado Egg Producers, Colorado Pork Producers Council, Colorado Wool Growers Association and Rocky Mountain Farmers Union in requesting that Colorado Governor Jared Polis declare March 22 Colorado Livestock Proud Day. The groups were notified last Friday that the Governor had agreed to sign the declaration. The declaration specifically highlights the essential nutrients in beef and emphasizes that livestock convert solar energy into food on marginal lands. The proclamation also states, “Agriculture serves as our state’s economic backbone, generating more than $40 billion in economic activity annually and supporting more than 170,000 jobs. Livestock production contributes over $4.6 billion to Colorado’s economy.”

Modified USDA Biodiesel Reports Coming

USDA and the U.S. Department of Energy plan to change two closely watched monthly reports to account for the rapid growth of the fuel. Reuters said details about the planned new reports came from USDA s monthly World Agriculture Supply and Demand Estimates. The changes are expected to be in place as early as this spring, an agency official told Reuters.

Peterson Partners with Combest, Sell & Associates

Before founding Combest, Sell and Associates, Sell served as the Deputy Chief of Staff for the House Committee on Agriculture, where he was instrumental in crafting the 2002 Farm Bill and the 2000 crop insurance law. Sell also spent time as the USDA Director of Intergovernmental Affairs in the President George W. Bush Administration. While Peterson and Sell come from different political perspectives, they both advocate bipartisanship. Peterson served 30 years in Congress and had been the leader on the Democratic side of the House Agriculture Committee since 2005, chairing the panel twice including during the development and passage of the 2008 Farm Bill which bears his name.  Chairman Peterson and the Combest Sell team have played leading roles in the development and passage of the past five farm bills and other major farm legislation.
