Comal County Commissioners on May 28 approved the issuance of tax-exempt bonds on behalf of SLF Ripple Ranch and Canyon Lake Community Library District’s bond refinancing plan.
Comal County Commissioners on Thursday accepted a deal to board excess Coryell County offenders inside the countyâs new lockup â putting additional pressure on federal authorities to finalize a similar arrangement before space runs out.
Sheriff Mark Reynolds said Coryell County Sheriff Scott Williams called last Thursday after the Texas Commission on Jail Standards ruled that Coryellâs 92-bed facility in Gatesville had exceeded inmate occupancy limits.
The countyâs new 582-bed facility was 61% full on Thursday. Inside were 71 of a possible 96 Hays County offenders and the first 10 from Coryell County, which hopes to send 40 more. Comal County is charging both counties $65 per inmate per day â which is $20 per diem above the average cost it paid to board overflow offenders in outside facilities.
Comal County Commissioners will consider approving more construction project change orders and an agreement to board offenders from another county during their weekly meeting on Thursday.
Comal County Commissioners will approve the countyâs 2022 budget planning schedule and issue proclamations honoring corrections officers and small businesses during their weekly meeting on Thursday.
The budget process takes roughly four months and concludes by the end of August. The 2021 budget, totaling $107.988 million, went into effect Jan. 1. It is funded by the 2020 combined tax rate of 35.8515 cents per $100 assessed property valuation, with portions designated for county general operations, jury, indigent health, debt service, and road and flood control funds.Â
âFirst, the process allows other elected officials to submit (budget) requests and define priorities of their offices for the upcoming year,â County Judge Sherman Krause said. âNext, it provides transparency to the taxpayers who are paying the bills. It gives them opportunity to review what weâre doing and gives them a say in the budget process.â
Comal County Commissioners will consider two more change orders for Annex renovations and revising the countyâs agreement with the designer of downtown renovations during their weekly meeting Thursday.
The eighth and ninth change order for the Annex Building Renovation Project, covering interior and exterior changes, will total $213,337, split between the county ($148,262) and contractor SpawGlass Contractors ($65,075).Â
Combined, both will increase the cost of Annex renovations to $11.930 million but not add construction days, which after Februaryâs freeze extended the substantial completion date from July 2 to July 12.
Commissioners will also consider amending its 2017 contract with renovation designer HDR Architecture, Inc. for Annex services. It will set future case work revisions to a lump-sum payment of $12,885, with HDR not subject to payment for additional days spent on the project.
