Year-round, people in the Columbia Basin get together outside to enjoy themselves and connect with each other. Eight communities, including New Denver, Johnson's Landing and Rossland, are now undertaking nine projects to make public spaces even more inviting and useable with support from nearly $1.43 million from Columbia Basin Trust’s Community Outdoor Revitalization Grants.

Millennium washrooms
The Millennium Park & Ponds washroom facilities have been upgraded and are open to the public.
Construction began last fall on new facilities which service Millennium Park & Ponds, several sports fields, and the Celgar Pavilion. The project utilized the existing washroom to minimize costs and reduce the footprint. New additions include: all-season washrooms, including accessible and family spaces; change-rooms; and three outdoor showers.
“With significant year-round use and more visitors all the time, we knew we needed better facilities at Millennium,” says Dan Rye, Deputy Mayor. “As part of our strategic plan, the City is improving recreational and cultural services for residents and visitors so we’re grateful we were able to improve the amenities with the support from Columbia Basin Trust.”

Communities look ahead to create places people can enjoy
As days grow warmer, people in the Columbia Basin are looking forward to enjoying outdoor spaces those in nature, and those in our communities. Looking ahead to times when restrictions ease, many communities are wondering how they can make the gathering places within their limits more welcoming and useable, or how they can add new ones altogether.
To realize their ideas, some communities have turned to Columbia Basin Trust’s Community Outdoor Revitalization Grants. Currently, this program is providing over $1.3 million to help 10 communities undertake such projects.
