Manipal Health, the second largest chain with 9,500 beds and 33 hospitals in 17 cities, plans to invest about ₹1,500 crore to add 1,400 beds in the next two quarters. Market leader Apollo, which currently operates 10,000 beds, has a target to add 2,400 beds during fiscal 2025-27.
Singapore sovereign wealth fund Temasek is selling 8-9% of its stake in Manipal Hospitals to Abu Dhabi fund Mubadala and Brunei Investment Authority. Temasek will continue to hold a 51% stake in the hospital chain. The sale is part of Temasek s portfolio rebalancing strategy and could potentially help Manipal Hospitals in the future with large-scale expansion opportunities.
Temasek owned Sheares Health, is in advanced negotiations to sell 8-9% of its 59% interest in Manipal Health Enterprises to Abu Dhabi fund Mubadala and the sovereign wealth fund of Brunei, Brunei Investment Authority (BIA), said people in the know.
