Cents snap Prince George losing streak

By Jared Thomas, Cents Communications Manager. The Centennials out-willed and outlasted the Prince George Spruce Kings for their first win of the pod season series against their northern rivals 6-5 on Saturday. The first period, may have been the best first period from the Cents in the pod, but certainly against the Spruce Kings. Despite surrendering a shorthanded goal to Christian Buono to open the scoring, the Cents bounced back with an answer on the powerplay as Alex Ochitwa sent a backhander past Jordan Fairlie to tie the game and end the shutout streak PG had going against the Cents for 2 and some games. Shots after 1 were 11-7 Prince George.

Merritt's offensive explosion sinks sloppy Spruce Kings

Merritt’s offensive explosion sinks sloppy Spruce Kings SHARE ON: Simply put, the Merritt Centennials were sick of losing to the Prince George Spruce Kings. Thanks to a four-point effort, Ben Ward willed the last-place Cents to a wacky 6-5 victory on Saturday inside the BCHL’s Chilliwack Pod. PG got off on the right foot courtesy of Christian Buono who broke loose shorthanded once again, handcuffing Colton Phillips-Watts for a 1-0 advantage. Local product and former Cariboo Cougar Alex Ochitwa responded 90 seconds later on the power-play capitalizing on an unusually shaky Jordan Fairlie inside the Spruce Kings net. Both would continue to exchange goals in the second as Amran Bhabra’s lazy wrister inside the Merritt blueline found its way past Phillips-Watts.

Spruce Kings put the boots to the Centennials

Spruce Kings put the boots to the Centennials SHARE ON: The goaltenders of the Merritt Centennials suffered another severe case of sunburn. A hat-trick by Christian Buono paced the Prince George Spruce Kings to a convincing 7-0 win against Merritt on Wednesday inside the Chilliwack hub. After carrying a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes, the BCHL’s most northern franchise lit the lamp three times in the middle period. Kolton Cousins collected his seventh of the Pod season accepting a Carter Cochrane feed beating Centennials netminder Colton Phillips-Watts. Another day, another Cuzzy goal! pic.twitter.com/ygcstqmkVD The Spruce Kings would put an end to Phillips-Watts night as Nick Rheaume powered his way from the corner finishing off a Simon Labelle pass extending the lead to 3-0.

Spruce Kings whitewash Merritt with 11-goal outburst

Spruce Kings whitewash Merritt with 11-goal outburst SHARE ON: The goal light at the Chilliwack Coliseum received a workout thanks to the Prince George Spruce Kings. Andrew Seaman and Christian Buono led the way offensively with a hat trick each pacing the Spruce Kings to a dominant 11-2 win against the Merritt Centennials on Wednesday. “I think we knew we had a lot more offense to bring after those first two games. A lot of it was shaking off the rust as it’s been a while since we played. The second and third periods we got pucks to the net, got some good bounces and it’s just the way it goes sometimes,” added Seaman.
