as a category one hurricane and strengthening. the first time since 1995 a hurricane has formed in the atlantic or in this case the caribbean in early in the season. you can see how much of the area the storm is covering. of course the fallout could be unlike anything we ve known because of this bp disaster. the broken oil well in the gulf of mexico is still churning out tens of thousands of barrels of oil into the water every day. the national incident commander thad allen says ships are still collecting and burning oil but many of the ships skimming the oil are headed back to port leaving behind a giant slick. along the gulf coast, this is the result. according to local reports the storm is churning up waves caring more oil into the beaches. this is original beach in alabama. you can see the brown sludge mixed with the water. farther south and west the wind and waves are picking up in a big way. part of mexico and south texas are getting whipped and alex is moving closer an
that s next unless breaking news changes everything. first, more than 100 people dead in an instant. one survivor left the wreckage of an airliner. officials say the plane went down in the city of tripoli. the video gives us an idea how hard it hit. thousands of pieces of debris. the largest chunk of the wreckage is the tail fin. one boy from the netherlands survived. survived the explosion, the plane breaking into pieces and survived the crash landing as he hit the ground. no one can figure out how. libbance says it had 103 people onboard, including 60 dutch tourists. the media report the pilot knew something was wrong and told the airport to have ambulances ready. jonathan hunt is with us. tell us about the boy. extraordinary story of survival. the boy is about 10 years old. according to libyan officials he s from the netherlands and has broken bones in both legs. he s in intensive care but he s in right now a stable condition. officials from the dutch embassy are expecte
