The U.S. Supreme Court on Friday morning overturned the constitutional right to an abortion, and reaction from Colorado leaders and groups are flooding in.
A vote for Colorado’s Reproductive Health Equity Act (RHEA) “was participating in a gravely sinful action because it facilitates the killing of innocent unborn babies, and those Catholic politicians who have done so have very likely placed themselves outside of the communion of the Church,” the state’s bishops wrote in a letter.
With abortion access restrictions now in Texas and Oklahoma, women in both states are now likely to turn to Colorado for care. Local abortion providers say the potential surge in demand as more surrounding states seek to restrict access would overwhelm health systems and create a dangerous scenario of abortion tourism in America.
