CFVGA Honors Wendy White
The Colorado Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association will honor a former marketer with the Colorado Department of Agriculture at its annual conference.
Wendy White worked for several years with the CDA as Marketing Specialist with the Colorado Proud Program promoting Colorado-grown fruits and vegetables and other state-produced ag products.
White has been named the Colorado Fruit & Vegetable Growers Association Robert Sakata 2020 Member of the Year.
White tells Colorado Ag Today it was a complete honor and a surprise.
White: “ It was such a privilege serving the Colorado produce community for so many years and promoting Colorado fruits and vegetables through the Colorado Proud Program. It was just such an honor to be recognized by this wonderful group that I had worked with for so many years and I’m just so excited about the opportunity that they gave me.”
Advisory for Healthy Families and Workplace Act

Small Colorado farms and ranches were surprised to learn they do not have a year to prepare for one section of the state’s new Healthy Families and Workplace Act.
The legislation is written in two parts. The first is a paid sick leave program. (that provides up to 48 hours of sick leave to employees) The second part of the HFWA relates to supplemental leave during public health emergencies, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. It provides up to 80 hours of paid leave for employees who have to deal with a COVID-19 illness themselves or in the family. It also provides paid leave for childcare and those with underlying health conditions during a public health emergency.
Colorado Pork for the Holidays

And the folks at the Colorado Ag Department have a suggestion for an easy side dish to go along with the main course. The Colorado Proud item for the last of the holiday season uses locally raised pork in a recipe from Chef Jason Morse of 5280 Culinary.
Trotta: This is an Italian Pork Sausage Stuffing. We think it’s perfect for holiday time because it goes great with holiday ham or pork loin, or inside a pork chop. There’s a lot of things you can buy that are still Colorado Proud at your local grocery store like carrots, celery, onions, dried apples, dried blueberries. The recipe is savory and is meant as a side dish and features that Italian pork sausage. Pork is a super versatile protein it’s a good source of vitamins and minerals and a holiday favorite.
