The New Scotland Park cross country course in Voorheesville was pretty much a shoe-gobbling mudpit on Saturday, following an all-day soaker on Thursday. The wind was fierce. Kate Sherman is a senior and knew how to handle all these elements, so she passed that on to her much less-experienced Mohonasen teammates. “We taped our shoes, so I made sure all of our shoes were on tight … we’ve had issues in the past with people losing their shoes,” she said with a laugh on Monday.

Head coach Bill Sherman tracked their progress through three circuits of the loop course at New Scotland Park in Voorheesville, watching their point total creep down closer to the number he wanted, and at the finish the Mighty Warriors pulled out a two-point victory over Voorheesville in the Colonial Council championship meet on Saturday.

Mohonasen wrestling tops rival Schalmont in long-awaited return to the mat | The Daily Gazette SECTIONS Shares0 ROTTERDAM  A year ago this weekend, Mohonasen wrestlers Jake Deguire and Clay O’Connor were on the mats at Times Union Center in Albany, competing in the NYSPHSAA championships as one of the last high school sports in the state to complete its full season before the swathe of cancellations brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. A year later, instead of preparing for another trip to states this weekend, O’Connor and Deguire were instead wrestling the first matches of an abbreviated, three-week season, with both scoring pins Wednesday night in Mohonasen’s 51-24 Colonial Council victory over Rotterdam rival Schalmont.

(Stan Hudy/The Daily Gazette) Shares0 ROTTERDAM – Throughout the winter season traditional indoor track venues have been closed to local high school meets, but on Monday afternoon Mohonasen girls’ track coach Bill Sherman plowed the way for a successful competition. Sherman cleared the Mohonasen eight-lane outdoor track of snow and ice, hosting Schalmont Monday afternoon outdoors on the Mighty Warriors’ track.
