Black Caucus requests full investigation into Louisiana State Police

BATON ROUGE- In the rotunda of the State Capitol Tuesday, members from the Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus gathered to discuss a request to have the United States Department of Justice investigate Louisiana State Police.
It comes after numerous stories filed by the WBRZ Investigative Unit that show cover-ups at the agency tied to Ronald Greene s death in police custody two years ago. Initially, State Police told the family Greene died in a crash. But, body camera footage showed Greene alive at the time he exited his car.

During that meeting, Brown and his attorney asked the commission to have him reinstated, and they wanted an investigation launched into the leaks that have been coming from Louisiana State Police. Ultimately, the commission denied their request by not even entertaining it.
Brown s attorney, Scott Wolleson, expressed that he was not happy with the reporting by the WBRZ Investigative Unit involving his clients. Mr. Brown was arrested Monday, and before we reached the jail WBRZ was already reporting the arrest, Wolleson said. Christopher Hollingsworth was suspended and received notice he was going to be terminated. I was involved in that. As we know there were 17 seconds of audio released to WBRZ that has now been quoted in national news around the country.

MONROE - A Louisiana State Trooper who shut off his body camera and kicked a handcuffed Black male, drug him by his leg shackles received a 50-hour suspension according to documents obtained by the WBRZ Investigative Unit. That man, Ronald Greene, died as a result of the encounter.
Attorneys representing the Greene family are calling for Trooper Kory York s termination and arrest.
York was given the suspension by former Colonel Kevin Reeves. The discipline that Reeves instituted came on the same day as head of Louisiana State Police announced his retirement. Reeves resigned under a cloud of controversy.
