Bangladesh is one of the top labour sending countries of the world. In the last decade, the number of Bangladeshis migrating abroad for employment has increased almost 100 times since the mid-1970s, when labour migration to the Gulf region commenced. Migrant workers have not only been contributing to the country’s foreign exchange reserves, they alleviate the pressure to create local employment opportunities for the tens of thousands of people that enter the job market in Bangladesh each year. Cambodia continues diplomatic efforts to assist migrant workers

Cambodia will continue to actively participate in the implementation of the Colombo Process to promote the rights and protect the interests of migrant workers during and after the Covid-19 crisis. The Colombo Process is a process of regional consultations on the management of occupations, employment and labour forces with overseas employment contracts for sending countries workers in Asia, said Minister of Labour and Vocational Training Ith Sam Heng.
