Colombia’s national parks at a crossroads as new director installed

As Colombia’s parks face brutal deforestation, a firestorm of criticism has erupted over the country’s newly appointed director of national parks, Orlando Molano, who has no experience in environmental affairs.
During the 17-year tenure of outgoing director Julia Miranda, eight new parks were established and Chiribiquete National Natural Park was expanded to become the world’s largest tropical rainforest park.
Environmentalists worry that under Molano’s oversight the development of recreational infrastructure in parks could take precedence over the conservation of nature in a country where corruption is rampant.

Francisco Vera Manzanares, 11, said he received a death threat on Twitter warning him that if he continues with his environmental activism, he will be skinned alive and have his fingers cut off .

The sickening abuse was aimed at the youngster after he posted a video a few days ago asking the Colombian government to guarantee internet access across the country for school classes to continue throughout the pandemic.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced Monday that his department would return Cuba to its list of State Sponsors of Terrorism over the Castro regime’s ties to international terrorist organizations like Hezbollah and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).
The Castro regime which regularly imprisons Cuban citizens for crimes such as “disrespect” if caught speaking ill about the government in public also openly harbors violent American criminals, most prominently Joanne Chesimard, who killed a New Jersey State Trooper in 1973.
After decades on the list since 1982 President Barack Obama removed Cuba from the official State Department list of State Sponsors of Terrorism in 2015, claiming the evidence did not support a place for the regime on that list. At the time, Cuba shared the list with Iran, Syria, North Korea and Sudan; the administration of President Donald Trump removed Sudan from the list in 2020.
