The Collinsville Public Library recently revealed its newly completed childrenâs area.
Collinsville Library Director Jennifer Wilkins said the childrenâs building project began with a donor who wanted to inspire children to read.
What started as an idea, grew to a vision of a space designed specifically for children to enjoy and be able to nurture their reading skills.
âThis exciting project took shape when library board members suggested a switch with the service desk location and the small space designated to children at Collinsville Library,â said Wilkins.
Findings by Donna Celano and Susan B. Neuman, authors and researchers, reveal libraries play a major role in fostering literacy in our nation, particularly among those segments of the populations that need assistance in developing literary skills, such as preschool and elementary school children.
The Collinsville Historical Association (CHA) was recently awarded a $10,000 grant from the Alabama Mountains, Rivers and Valley Resource Conservation and Development Council.
Collinsville Historical Association President Monica Dennis said the grant is awarded to communities trying to improve residents quality of life and natural resources.
The Cricket Theatre restoration is an ongoing project of love for CHA to provide the residents of Collinsville a place to gather, celebrate, entertain and promote the arts.
âWe are excited and grateful we were chosen to receive this grant to assist with our ongoing renovation of the Cricket Theatre,â she said.
Dennis said the grant would assist with much-needed repairs to the ceiling structure so Collinsville and surrounding areas can have a facility large enough to accommodate social distancing.
