Work on Morgantown s paving plan to begin July 8

Just over four miles of city streets in Morgantown are set to be repaved by the beginning of September, according to a city press release. The city will also begin installing 63 curb ramps in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Construction of the ramps will begin July 8, and repaving will begin Aug. 2. Anderson Excavating LLC was approved by the City Council in June to repave 16 city streets, as part of the 2021 Paving Plan. The following city streets are included in the 2021 Paving Plan: Cobun Avenue from Edgewood to Kingwood Dayton Avenue from Union to Richwood Eastern Avenue from Burroughs to Morgan

Since the announcement of the closing of Mylan’s manufacturing plant in Morgantown Thursday, several local representatives have started preliminary discussions on how to help the transition of close to 1,500 employees who will be impacted by the plant’s closure. While nothing has been set in stone yet, many local economic officials have not been surprised by the announcement. “In our West Virginia Economic Outlook Report, we actually have listed that as a potential downside risk for the economic forecast for two or three years now, so it wasn’t a complete surprise at the same time,”

According to a press release from its parent company, Viatris Inc., which was formed earlier this year after Pfizer purchased Mylan in 2019.
