MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WV News) â Monongalia County is under a Winter Storm Warning, as of Tuesday afternoon, with prediction of snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches beginning Wednesday morning and continuing into Thursday.Â
The Public Works Department willâ¯operate five plows beginning Wednesday morning and will adjust staffing levels as conditions necessitate, according to a release. The Public Works Department has eight plow trucks and approximatelyâ¯2,400 tons of salt to treat and clear city streets and sidewalks.
In December, the city signed a maintenance agreement with the West Virginia Division of Highways to treat and perform snow removal on certain state roads within city limits. These roads include High Street, College Avenue, University Avenue and Collins Ferry Road, Burroughs Street, Stewart Street and Stewartstown Road, North Willey Street, Spruce Street, Pleasant Street, and Walnut Street. MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Mon and Marion Counties in West Virginia and Clarion County in Pennsylvania from 7 a.m. Wednesday, December 16 through 7 a.m. Thursday, December 17.
“Seven to nine inches across Monongalia County, it may be a little higher in the ridges in the eastern part of the county,” NWS meteorologist Chris Leonardi said,” There’s still some uncertainty, there’s a reasonable possibility as little as 5 or as many as 10 inches in parts of the county.”
The West Virginia Division of Highways will treat and remove snow on select roads in the city. They are High Street, College Avenue, University Avenue and Collins Ferry Road, Burroughs Street, Stewart Street and Stewartstown Road, North Willey Street, Spruce Street, Pleasant Street, and Walnut Street. Citizens do not pay any higher for the DOH to do this.
