People ‘hellbent on finding racism’ prevent conversation about Indigenous issues11/02/2021|9min Alice Springs Deputy Mayor Jacinta Price says the people who are “hellbent on finding racism where it doesn’t exist” are not helping the wider community and are making it harder to talk about Indigenous issues affecting regional communities.
“It is Aboriginal people of no other descent living in remote communities … who are suffering the most, who are the most vulnerable, who aren’t concerned with racism around every corner but are concerned with the much more severe issues,” she told Sky News host Andrew Bolt.
Ms Price also said the activists who wish to get people removed from their jobs like Eddie McGuire being forced to resign as Collingwood President are “shallow individuals on a witch hunt”.
He later backtracked those comments and said he planned to remain as Collingwood president until the end of the year. But the pressure became too great, leading to his immediate resignation.
At his final press conference, McGuire said he had become a âlightning rod for vitriolâ and that the club needed clear air to move forward.
Former long-time Western Bulldogs president Peter Gordon said McGuire had made âfar and awayâ the most important contribution to the game of any club president in the gameâs history.
âIn addition to that heâs always shown leadership to the competition as a whole,â he said.
