In his 20s, Shon Hopwood performed a string of robberies and served 11 years in jail. While in jail, he found a love of law and went on to become a professor of law at Georgetown.Â
On April 23 at 7 p.m., Hopwood will give a guest lecture via Zoom presented by the University of Nebraska-Lincolnâs Collegiate Recovery Community, whose mission is to help and provide resources to students recovering from addiction. Hopwood will be talking about his life during the robberies and in jail and how he was able to turn his life around.Â
Graduate assistant for the CRC Tim Anderson said Hopwood was his first choice as a guest speaker. As a recovering addict himself, Anderson said he was inspired by Hopwoodâs story of redemption when he was applying for law school. He said he didnât think of anyone who fits the message of the CRC better.
PITTSFIELD, Mass. Berkshire Community College (BCC) launched a Collegiate Recovery Community for its students last fall, and will expand its efforts into the spring 2021 semester and beyond. The recovery community, Students for Recovery at BCC, is a shared space for students to give and gain peer support, celebrate recovery, pursue their college goals, and find success. BCC s Collegiate Recovery Community, a collaboration between the Personal Counseling Center and Student Engagement, has been made possible through the support of a BCC Foundation donor. This donor previously helped fund the 2018 Hope and Health Conference at the College, coordinated by Dr. Kari Dupuis, Program Advisor for Human Services.
