Group asserts years of public health cuts contributed to Solano’s, state’s Covid crisis Dr. Bela Matyas FAIRFIELD A coalition of public health associations, labor groups and other county political advocates said a decade of public health funding cuts inhibited the ability of Solano County and the state to respond to the Covid-19 pandemic. “Covid-19 confirmed the worst fears of public health officials who have been warning that a decade of budget cuts would leave our workforce hollowed out and our infrastructure wiped out just when we needed it most,” Colleen Chawla, president of the California Health Executives Association of California and director of the Alameda County Health Care Services Agency, said in a statement released by California Can’t Wait.

Oakland officials plead with FEMA to keep vaccination site open at Coliseum Oakland officials plea with FEMA to keep COVID vaccination site open at Oakland Coliseum FEMA is set to end it s services on the 11th, a few days before vaccination eligibility expands. Local officials are continuing efforts to keep the staff and the vaccin​​​​​​​​ations in place for another four weeks. This is an emergency across the country and certainly when it comes to being left out in East Oakland, Oakland is always at the end of the emergency, said Oakland City Councilmember Noel Gallo. The Oakland Coliseum was one of two sites to be chosen for FEMA s eight-week mission to vaccinate. But, now FEMA wants to hand the reins to Alameda County. The site is set to close on April 11.

OAKLAND, Calif. - U.S. Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) on Monday will tour the Oakland Coliseum mass vaccination site in an effort to encourage more people to get vaccinated. However, by this Sunday evening, the Coliseum will no longer be offering any vaccinations, despite efforts from Alameda County officials to keep it running. Padilla will discuss the upcoming expansion of vaccine eligibility to Californians 16 years and older, which goes into effect on April 15. But coincidentally, the Federal Emergency Management Agency will shut down the vaccination site at the Coliseum, which the agency co-operates with the California Governor s Office of Emergency Services.
