The district on Tuesday recorded the highest rise in COVID-19 cases on a single day with 2,970 people testing positive for the virus infection. The Test Positivity rate for the day stood at a high 30.81 %.
The spurt in cases were most visible within the Kottayam municipality, which reported 426 cases, followed by Arppookkara with 139 and Maravanthuruth with 108 cases.
With 4,729 recoveries during the day, the district currently has 16,993 active cases. As many as 46,894 people are under observation.

The number of COVID-19 cases continued to skyrocket in Kottayam, which reported 2,666 fresh cases on Sunday at a test positivity rate of 28.88 %.
Of the fresh cases, 2,640 persons contracted the disease through local transmission. With 538 recoveries during the day, the district currently has 17,768 active cases while 40,929 people are under surveillance.
With 384 cases, Kottayam municipality reported the highest number of cases, followed by Pambady with 128 cases.
District Collector M.Anjana on Sunday declared Kaavumbhagam in Kallara and Indiragandhi Lakshamveedu colonies as limited clusters.

A dry run for COVID-19 vaccine administration was held at three centres including Government Victoria Hospital, Travancore Medicity Medical College and Anchal Community Health Centre in the district on Friday.
All procedures of the vaccination except injecting the medicine were followed in the mock sessions held in preparation for the vaccine rollout.

Collector administers oath at Corporation office
Members of the Kollam Corporation, district panchayat, four municipalities, 11 block panchayats and 68 grama panchayats took oath of office at separate functions held here on Monday. District Collector B.Abdul Nasar administered the oath to George D Kattil from Port division, senior most member of corporation, during the ceremony held at Kollam Town Hall.
Mr.George presided over the first meeting that followed the swearing-in of other 54 members. Elected members from the 26 divisions of Kollam district panchayat were sworn in at Jayam Memorial Hall.
