Senator dorgen, everybody s views on the case, by the time it reaches the senate, the clinton scandals had been well-debated in american life. did you see any of your colleaguings walk out of the senate floor as the trial commenced and said wait, this is a big one? i think everyone understood this is a very sober moment. there is no joy in a united states senate that convenes as a trial for prosecution of impeachment resolution. it is a tough situation. let me just tell you that as we began, there s not much of a template for how you proceed. as we begin, all 100 of us met in the old senate chambers and had an off the record discussion about how do we do this? what s the template for which we do this? some, for example, wanted to call witnesses into the chamber of the senate, bring monica lewinsky in, some of them said so she can be a witness. the fact is that was discarded and ultimately we got video
You re trying to campaign in iowa, new hampshire, which are so crucially grassroots states in order to win, that could be difficult for some of these senators who are going to be back and forth on flights from reagan airport to des moines and manchester. i think if you re bernie, warren, booker, klobuchar, some of the other senators that could prove difficult. i don t think anything in the last debate changed the trajectory of the dynamics of the race. think buttigieg maintained in terms of showing that he could take some fire, take the heat. take the criticism from his colleaguings and still maintain. i think bernie sanders is in a much stronger position than people realize. michael bloomberg is not even in the race yet, he s being criticized for the massive ad buy, $31 million for one single add, or week of tv ads in over two dozen states, what do you make of that?
Oval office, signing three executive orders, one with obamacare, taking some initial steps towards repeal. the other two about filling out his cabinet. in case you have any quest about whether he would utilize twitter as president, he did so this morning. so the new president is up and tweeting, a kind of lighthearted tweet today, a fantastic day and evening in washington, d.c. thank you to our colleaguings at fox news and so many other news outlets for the great reviews of the speech. so again he is utilizing his personal twitter handle and then @potus, which now belongs to him, no longer the domain of former president barack obama, they may retweet him to make that a part of the official record. but the work is getting going, the tweeting is under way and all of course followed the night of some of the pomp and ceremony that is the inauguration. for all the bigger than life ways donald trump has long held the spotlight.
Analyst ron brownstein. ska scalise was a rising star. do you think it s over. on current facts it looks like he will survive this. under information that he did not really know the nature of this group. that you have not seen yet a critical mass really even of democrats from the state, much less republican colleaguings who are demanding that he go. do you think this sets up a dangerous precedent if democrats push not to have him removed from leadership not because of something he said but because he spoke to someone that i guess most people would disagree with their views. that could be turned against. so democrats at some point. well look politicians, i mean it is fair for politicians to say they do not always know
Northwest side. rangel has won every general election he has been in since 1970 with more than 80% of the vote. for 14 years, not even a democrat challenged him in a primary. although he is in a tough primary battle this year for the better part of four decades he has had almost no competition, yet he has raised and spent more than $24 million. so many years you have had absolutely no opposition. what do you guys do with the money that you raise for these fundraisers and campaigns when you don t have anybody to run against? probably help other candidates. handing out money to fellow colleaguings to congressional campaign economies to party action committees, they contend it is how members of congress gain power and yes, buy votes. and it is why, need it or not they keep raising it.
