health insurance, they are able to keep the money. they are not being penalized anymore, whether they want to purchase catastrophic plan, they are able to do it. they are given that choice and that s what people are demanding. jillian: you see it something as sticks? i don t know. we have a lot of work to go done with that. with the passage of alexander murray, there are negotiations happening and that may make it work and may help people. we have to temporarily increase the cost and share and reductions and bring them back and that s how the individual mandate is going to stabilize the marketplace. you can t do one without the other right now. to be determined then. temporarily reviefing the cost-sharing reductions to subsidies? senator colins opposed to mandate. this is how we are getting
receptivity to the proposals that i have been putting forth. when you have mccain and murcows murcowski, but colins is intimating she wants to get to yes. others have concerns about this, but everything about the body language and the words tells you they are going to get here. this is a big thing. this is a huge bill that changes the tax code as we know it. it has obamacare repeal and helps republican voters and hurts democratic voters. the republican party. and also for donald trump, we talked all year about how he can t get anything passed and it s stalled. if he passes a huge tax reform that we are now two 3thirds of the way through. this is not over. i shouldn t promise the bill will pass because remember what happened last time. it seems like we are pretty close. corker seems like he is getting on board and langeford and hold
says, that this trigger goes in and they either have to cut or increase taxes. then there s the group that wants the pass through, that wants the corporate taxes. that s the ron johnson, the danes group. then there s the group like mccain and colins who are concerned about the repeal of obamacare. the committee he s talking about is the senate budget committee which, by the way, is scheduled to vote in 20 some minutes on this proposal. ron johnson is on that committee. as is corker. so if they voted no, only one vote in the committee, it would get stalled and this thing definitely would be pushed to the new year. dana: we re looking at president trump s motorcade going back to the white house presumably maybe we did not want to take questions from the media because he needs to get back to the white house to talk about north korea and meet with his national security team there at the white house. of course, he s got to have tax reform on his mind. i have noticed a difference, bret, i
talk to the vice president for quite a while. two of them even left the floor together for a little while. you know, there are some talks that maybe it would take a phone call or have another conversation, sort of away from the cameras. so you know, in hindsight, the dynamic between john mccain and the democrats was so much different from the dynamic between he and his republican colleagues, who are understandably very frustrated. it s not as if john mccain was not somebody who has campaigned on repealing and replaced obamacare, just as the rest of them have. no, it s a good point, david jolly, we had senators murckowski, colins and john mccain voting against this. three different people and three different reasons to do so. already, donald trump is out there, he did not name them in his first tweets but he will. he will talk about them and drop their names over the next few days. do these three people have something to worry about, or do they benefit from having stood their ground?
they recognize there is a high risk pool that does need extended coverage and there is a financial challenge, financially challenged pool that does need federal assistance. donald trump tweeted as was expected. three republicans and 48 democrats have let the country down. he said also, i said from the beginning, let obamacare implode, then deal. watch. tell me how you interpret that. listen, this is the president shifting his plan again based on whatever happens on the hill. we saw this, right, initially it was repeal and replace, it was wither on the vine. this president is not a policy leader of the gop. we know that. he leads by insult, and frankly his insult to colins, murckowski and john mccain tonight, are only going to make them more popular with their constituents.
