Whether he did it or not is a question which can never be conclusively resolved (âThe bleeding obviousâ, March 7). But such a dark cloud over the reputation of Christian Porter provokes another question: can he continue to do his job?
If a person canât do their job, for whatever reason beyond their control, whether ill health, failing eyesight or whatever, there are usually only two options for most in the workforce: resignation or accept termination. In this case, however, fairness to the individual assumes great importance. Dismissal in the face of unproven allegations would wreck a long political career â a personal tragedy for a person who may be well skilled in the discharge of his professional duties as the first law officer of the land.
