It follows as business students from Furness College have been coming up with innovative ideas to transform the town centre for future generations, as part of a two-week virtual work experience project in partnership with Barrow BID. The two groups went head-to-head on the project with the winning team outlining a plan for ‘streetfood experience’ from local restaurants to enable 16-25 year olds to experience affordable food, music and culture from around the world.

THIRD lockdown is a point of much concern for business owners in Barrow who yet again have to shut up shop if they are not deemed ‘essential’. Around 600,000 retail, hospitality, and leisure sites will be able to claim a one-off grant of up to £9,000, the Government has announced. The programme of grants will cost the Treasury £4.6 billion and is aimed to help support the high street as new lockdown measures announced on Monday take hold. IN a bid to spread some festive joy following a tough year for businesses, Santa paid a visit to traders across Barrow town centre recently. Barrow BID have been unable to put on large scale events in Barrow town centre during the festive period due to the pandemic. So on December 19 they ran a Covid safe Christmas trail for families and even had a special appearance from Santa himself. The Christmas Trail had 10 naughty elves hiding in stores across the town and participants had to follow a series of clues and a map to find the elves and a letter which would spell out the final destination.
