Not many runners around the world are able to complete the 87.701km of the world's largest and oldest ultramarathon race Comrades Marathon between Pietermaritzburg and Durban but East London and Old Selbornian runner Sharon Eldridge finished the race a 30th consecutive time on Sunday, a remarkable milestone.
The MBSA 15km run out and back to the motor plant on East London’s historical West Bank attracted a finishing field of 735 runners, joggers and walkers on an ideal morning.
East London couple Sharon Eldridge and Colin Bosch are flying to Europe on Thursday to participate in four marathons in four countries over a period of four weeks.
When Sharon Eldridge was about to reach the finish line of the Two Oceans ultra-marathon in Cape Town on Sunday, her partner grabbed her hand as though to help her, but the Old Selbornian Road Runners’ president insisted she could finish, despite her cramping. But all Colin Bosch, 60, wanted was to propose to the love of his life at the finish line.
