Residents plea Prince William leaders to reconsider proposed tax hikes
Residents who oppose a proposal to hike Real Estate taxes made their voices heard this week in Prince William County.
Multiple residents lined up to speak to the Board of County Supervisors to oppose a 7-percent Real Estate tax hike in County Executive Christopher Martino’s proposed budget.
“It’s time to figure out how we can do more with less, instead of saying to property owners, ‘you need to pay more,” said Helen Dunnovan, an attorney from Dumfries.
She called attention to area businesses that are failing or have closed due to the coronavirus pandemic. She also voiced concerns that some who are unemployed due to the pandemic are unable to pay their bills.
