The state’s largest business competition program begins Tuesday night and there’s still time to sign up. 10 News is working for you to help rebuild our local economy by sponsoring Virginia’s largest business competition, the Gauntlet. Started by the Advancement Foundation in Vinton, the Gauntlet helps entrepreneurs start or expand their businesses.
According to the Advancement Foundation, more than 100 entrepreneurs have already signed up this year to begin the 10-week course. Due to the pandemic, classes are virtual this year, making it easier than ever to participate. Annette Patterson, President of The Advancement Foundation, said they made the online transition last year mid-season and it offered new opportunities for participants.

VINTON, Va. – This year is crucial for small businesses looking to rebound from 2020′s rollercoaster economy. 10 News is working for you to help rebuild our local economy by sponsoring Virginia’s largest business competition, the Gauntlet. Started by the Advancement Foundation in Vinton, the Gauntlet helps entrepreneurs start or expand their businesses. The Gauntlet launched 70 businesses last May, amid the pandemic.

Supporting local entrepreneurs and small businesses in Southwest Virginia, State Farm has awarded The Advancement Foundation in Vinton a $35,000 grant to help sustain and scale the Commonwealth’s largest business program and competition.
The Gauntlet, now in its 7th season, is inspiring business development, growth and innovation. During a time when it is needed most, State Farm and The Advancement Foundation say their organizations aim to increase business development to rebuild the local economy. The Gauntlet helps small business startups and current businesses develop new strategies for growth.
