Twelve Mile Limit is tucked away on a residential corner in New Orleans. The bar, like many that dot the city, survives from a time when houses and businesses mixed. Twelve Mile Limit, however, stands out. Owner T. Cole Newton made this dive into a place where you could get a fine cocktail, yet not spend more than $10 for it. In the whimsical “Cocktail Dive Bar” (Running Press), Newton documents every drink created for this modern New Orleans institution. He also slips in a few serious lessons about being a good neighborhood and taking care of his patrons and his city. Newton, who also owns the casual wine bar The Domino, talked to The American South about life and drinking in New Orleans.
