Indiana’s weekend trip to New Jersey wasn’t perfect, but it was still pretty, pretty good.
After taking back-to-back games against host Rutgers, No. 23 IU split a pair of meetings against Nebraska to close pod play in Piscataway with three wins and stay atop the Big Ten standings. The Hoosiers answered Saturday’s 7-6 loss to the Cornhuskers with a 4-2 win on Sunday.

Piscataway, N.J. – After the Nebraska baseball team beat Indiana Hoosiers with a walk-off single yesterday at Bainton Field, the Hoosiers responded with a 4-2 victory on Sunday morning. The Hoosiers scored all four runs in the first inning and then held on behind a complete-game performance from Gabe Bierman. The teams split a pair of games at the Piscataway Pod and will meet two more times this season when the Huskers visit Bloomington for pod play against Indiana and Ohio State in two weeks. Bierman went all 9.0 innings and improved to 5-2 on the year. He allowed a pair of runs on four hits and a walk, while striking out 11.

Though it, at times, seemed like things would go sideways for the Hoosiers over the weekend, they managed to take a big series win over fourth-place Iowa in Bloomington. The Hawkeyes took the opening game, 6-5, with the help of three errors from the Hoosiers in the field and six walks by Hoosier pitchers. From there, IU smoked Iowa, 12-6, on Saturday and then pulled away late on Sunday to win 12-8.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State junior Garrett Burhenn had another good start and his bullpen backed him up with three hitless innings at the Buckeyes took game one of a huge four-game weekend series with Big Ten leading Indiana 3-2 on Friday night.
The win improves the Buckeyes to 9-7 on the season while Indiana losses for just the fourth time this year and is now 11-4 overall.
Burhenn was coming off his best outing of the season last Friday and he didn’t miss a beat tonight vs. the Hoosiers. He was in control from the start, going six innings, allowing just two runs on three hits while striking out five. He picks up his second win of the season.
