Day of disruption as snow continues to fall in north Essex | Harwich and Manningtree Standard

HEROIC farmers have been praised for going above and beyond to help stranded travellers navigate the treacherous weather conditions. Snowfall continued across north Essex today, with the Met Office extending its yellow weather warning until the end of tomorrow. Dozens of schools in north Essex were closed and the snow caused travel disruption with train services between Manningtree and Harwich suspended by Greater Anglia and drivers warned to only travel if absolutely necessary. Residents of Tendring have praised the district’s farmers for putting their heavy machinery to good use, helping drivers who became stuck in the blizzard. Jamie Reeve, from Walton, was driving down Walton Road in Thorpe when he became stuck before a car behind him also suffered the same fate.

The White Hart is highlighted by the commissioner of a new report revealing the new and positive role pubs play in boosting people’s wellbeing. The Open Arms report was produced by Loughborough University for The Campaign to End Loneliness, in collaboration with Heineken. The latter runs a Brewing Good Cheer campaign, which champions the unique role pubs play in society, and has praised The White Hart. The Nayland Road pub has been cited as a shining example in terms of making a difference and putting its community first, especially during the pandemic when loneliness is at an all-time high.
