The Coimbatore police detained Sakthi Anandan, the founder of My V3 Ads, an online Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) company, and 200 of his supporters on Saturday, February 10. Sakthi and his followers wanted to meet the Coimbatore Police Commissioner to give a complaint asking for action against those allegedly spreading false information about his company.
The arrested person has been identified as Afsar Khan alias Upsar Khan, a relative of Jamesa Mubin who was killed when the car bomb exploded. Afsar Khan allegedly procured some of the raw materials used to make the explosives through e-commerce websites. Coimbatore Police on Thursday arrested a sixth person for his alleged involvement in the October 23 car blast in the city, in which a man was charred to death, and is suspected to have played a major role in sourcing raw materials used in making explosives.
Coimbatore Police Commissioner Balakrishnan said that the five accused arrested in connection with the car explosion case have been booked under the UAPA Act. He added that some of the accused were questioned by the NIA in 2019.
Five people have been booked under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act as the Tamil Nadu Police probed the terror angle in the Coimbatore cylinder blast case.
