COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore city police registered a case against Makkal Needhi Maiam president Kamal Hassan for violating the model code of conduct. Kamal is MNM’s candidate in Coimbatore South assembly constituency.
The Kattoor police registered the case based on a complaint filed by independent candidate Palanikumar.
In his complaint, Palanikumar mentioned that stage actors dressed up as a goddess and god Raman had campaigned opposite to the Ramar temple at Ramnagar for Kamal Hassan. This was a violation of the model code of conduct, he said.
The police registered the case under sections 123 (3)(The promotion of, or attempt to promote, feelings of enmity or hatred between different classes of the citizens of India on grounds of religion, race, caste, community, or language, by a candidate or his agent or any other person with the consent of a candidate or his election agent for the furtherance of the prospects of the election of that candidate or for prejudici
