Third cohort of CAES Rural Scholars embraces first semester at UGA

The 2023 cohort of Rural Scholars brings a wide range of interests and ambitions with them as they complete their first semester at the University of Georgia’s College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. The third round of students recruited through the CAES Rural Scholars Program includes Jay Lavender of Statham, Georgia; Ashley Rowell of Douglas, Georgia; and Willow Waldrep of Forsyth, Georgia.

4-H ers stay busy during the summer

Coffee County 4-H has been busy this summer. On June 5, thirty-three fifth and sixth graders traveled to Jekyll 4-H Center for a fun week of Cloverleaf Camp.They enjoyed five days of fun at the beach, environmental education, and exploring island and marsh life. The days were spent participating in a variety of outdoor activities such as beach swimming, biking, canoeing, hiking, competing in relay races, seining, dancing, hunting for sand dollars, hermit crabs, and periwinkle snails, and of course eating lots of snow cones and Icees.

Coffee County Young Farmers well represented at Georgia Young Farmers Convention

Coffee County had over 20 young farmer members attend the Georgia Young Farmers Association (GYFA) annual Convention on Jekyll Island, many of whom received numerous awards and recognition on the state level. 

Middle school artists wanted for bookmark contest

Are you a middle school student who likes to create art or do you know one who does? Then check out the 2023 Georgia Farm Bureau Middle School Bookmark Contest! The state winner will receive $150 and 10 district winners will each receive $100. Coffee County Farm Bureau encourages students to enter the contest. The winner of the Coffee County Farm Bureau Bookmark Contest will receive $100, the second place winner will receive $75 and third place will receive $50.
