The Reeds Spring School District is not changing its name.
Superintendent Cody Hirschi surveyed the community about the idea, which had been recommended by the district s strategic planning committee.
The 1,700-student district announced Monday that more than 4,400 filled out online or paper surveys, indicating high interest in the topic.
However, only 16 percent were open to the idea. The other 84 percent opposed altering the district s name.
The district issued a statement: The Reeds Spring School District appreciates all of the passion and pride shown by our community.
The committee floated the idea of the name change because the district serves families living in Reeds Spring, Cape Fair, Branson West, Kimberling City and Indian Point. The idea was to find a new name that better reflected the area.
