Now that Giants general manager Dave Gettleman is officially coming back, there’s no sense in looking backward, at least for now. It’s full steam ahead on the 2021 offseason, a crucial one if the Giants are going to get back to being playoff contenders.
Gettleman is back, at least in part, because co-owner John Mara likes the way he and coach Joe Judge work together. There was some rumblings that Judge was going to seek more influence over personnel decisions this offseason, but Mara put those to rest too.

The Giants made a somewhat surprising though understandable move on Friday to lock in defensive back Logan Ryan long-term, and the deal is going to have a significant impact on the construction of the team’s roster in 2021.
Namely: They’re going to have a difficult time re-signing one (or both) of their two most important impending free agents, and it could impact their ability to sign a significant player from outside their roster.

I know I/we all knock Getty (and this week, for maybe the first time for many, Judge, too) from time to time…some of us more often than others, but every now and then, I am reminded of just how hard, thankless, and No-Win these jobs must be. For example, we all see every move that
gets done, but none of the ones that
didn’t get done. I bet there are times when those are even more important than the ones that did. Like, what if we had traded Landon for that supposed 4th round pick, instead of letting him finish the year with us, and then getting a 3rd round Comp Pick, (which turned out to be Matt Peart)? Or, what if we hadn’t signed Solder, and were stuck with another year of Flowers at LT? Or what if we had drafted Josh Rosen instead of Saquon, and Josh wound up sucking, while the Jets, who would have had a backfield of Bridgewater and Barkley, had been going 10 & 6
