A warm cup of cocoa has always been a beloved winter treat, but these days it’s really “the bomb.”

When heated milk is poured over one of these hollow chocolate spheres filled with marshmallows and various candies it dissolves into a dreamy, steamy, creamy cup of cocoa.
“It takes 30 seconds to a minute before it explodes,” said South Jordan baker Carissa Starks. “But that is the best part the anticipation.”
The experience seemed to be just what the pandemic-weary consumers needed when videos of the cocoa bombs started popping up on TikTok in October. It didn’t take long before the sweet treats resembling a large truffle took over Instagram and Facebook, too.
With the Christmas holiday right around the corner, local business owners selling sugary treats say they are grateful for the community’s support as sales numbers are looking sweet.
Hot Cocoa Bombs Are The Biggest New Thing
Cocoa Bombs are the hot new thing on TikTok. I think I definitely want to try one. They look very yummy because they have two of my favorite things: Cocoa powder and mini marshmallows.
What you do is you get your favorite kind of cocoa powder? I love the Ghirardelli kind that comes in dark chocolate. I am going to make these with my child on Christmas morning. We are going to use the regular Swiss Miss chocolate that I have already on hand. I have the kind with the mini-marshmallows in them.
