Mumbai, Feb 3 : Hoping to improve the public perception towards the schools run by the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the country s richest civic body has decided to redesignate all its schools as Mumbai Public Schools , while giving a mega-push to infrastructure development of the country s commercial capital, BMC Commissioner I.S. Chahal said here on Wednesday.
Presenting the BMC s Rs 39,038.83 crore budget an increase of 16.74 per cent over last year s Rs 33,441.02 crore Chahal said the revenue estimates for the current fiscal was Rs 28,448.30 crore, which has been reduced by Rs 5,876.17 crore and revised to Rs 22,572.13 crore, largely owing to the fall in income because of the coronavirus pandemic and the lockdowns.

Bombay HC disposes fisherfolk s plea against BMC s coastal road project Vidya
Bombay High Court has disposed off a petition that was filed against Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation s (BMC) pet project, the coastal road.
What is the case about?
Petitioners who are traditional fisherfolk primarily from the Haji Ali Bay area in Worli had approached the court praying that the court should restrain BMC from obstructing the fishing operations being carried out by them from Lotus Jetty which includes anchoring and operating fishing vessels, mending nets and storing fishing equipment.
The 10 petitioners who were before the high courts also sought that BMC should rehabilitate them at an alternative site where they can carry on their fishing operations and until that is done, the fishermen said that BMC should not interfere with the fishing operations being carried out by them from Lotus Jetty.
MUMBAI: In a first of its kind initiative 10 officials from the Bhiwandi-Nizampur City Municipal Corporation (BNCMC) visited the BMC on a 'study tour’.

Launching the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) named Mavla to dig twin tunnels for the upcoming and ambitious Coastal Road Project (CRP), Thackeray said no efforts would be spared to deploy the best of science and technology for the speedy progress of Mumbai.
